Directors Retiring. At the November board meeting 2 directors confirmed their intention to retire. Paul Carroll will step down after five years on the board with three as Captain. I will also step down having completed (this time ) three years as Captain and four as President. Other board members have signalled their intention to continue although final decisions are still to be made. Its time for others ( you? ) to take a turn. Our AGM is on Friday the 5th of April 2019. That date will be upon us before we know it. The amended constitution stipulates that there will be 7 positions available for election in 2019 with a further 2 directors appointed by the board if they so desire. Intending directors are encouraged to contact the chairman of the Board to discuss their candidacy as to what the role involves. Please click Contact me to send me a message if you are interested. Governance is the cornerstone of board function. The Strategic plan is the blueprint for the club operations. The Strategic Plan was released July 2018 and contains the essential elements from a more detailed analysis and planning document . The legislation governing clubs requires that directors come from the club Golf Australia has some excellent material on their website for Boards and Committees. Please click here Notice of a General meeting on Feb the 8th will be sent out prior to Christmas. At that meeting a new version of the constitution containing some amendments will be put to the membership for approval. From Golf Australia " It is best practice to review your constitution every 2 -3 years and if any changes are made, they must be lodged with the relevant department in your state or territory. It is also important to remember that changes to the constitution are required to be debated and voted upon at an annual general meeting or a special general meeting." In the Notice of Meeting sent to members there will be an explanation of the changes and the reasoning behind them. A vote will be called to authorise each of the changes to the constitution and the adoption of the changed constitution in its entirety. The Board is unanimous in recommending the adoption of the proposed changes As members are aware the club's principal charity is Legacy. Legacy day was held this year on Saturday the 17th November. The club was honoured to receive his Excellency, General The Honourable David Hurley NSW State Governor and his wife Mrs Linda Hurley. His Excellency gave an address on the work of Legacy and the value of the support Legacy provides in caring for the families of veterans who have died or become incapacitated either on service or subsequently. The day raised for Legacy over $19,000 from members and guests. New members In the last months we have welcomed these new members. If you see someone new please take the time to introduce yourself and welcome them.
| THE MEN FROM COBAR. Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of playing with Dennis Neale and Grant Blanchard. After the game we were joined at our table by Ashley Southon and new member Les Brooker. It turns out that Ashley, Dennis and Les all were born in Cobar. Dennis' dad coached Les for rugby. Ashley's father also played rugby there. The club has been successful in gaining a grant from the NSW Government of $10,790.00 for an extension to our cart storage. A sketch design has been prepared and a development application will be prepared for the council. It is anticipated that we will be in the position to lodge it within the next months. The existing cart sheds were built in 2008 and house the club's battery powered carts (10) as well as member's carts and golf buggies. There is a continuing need to expand storage, both for members cart and buggies and to allow expansion of the club's carts. The First Friday Dinners have been extremely popular with full houses for the last few months. The December function will be a Christmas theme - some spaces are still available. Financial Health. Just an update on how we are 'travelling' financially this year. Each month we compare our monthly results against the budget as well as the results from last year. Our trading results have been very good with the last two months records. While we all receive price increases, we believe we can absorb this years increases meaning that there will be no price adjustments needed in this period. Course activity remains very strong with some record fields experienced. Last month I reported that we are on track for our 4th cash profit - in fact should be our 5th in a row. Our course is in terrific condition and we want it to stay that way. Recently we have had golfers practicing hitting between 10-30 shots from the 8th, 15th and 18th fairways in the late evenings. As members are aware, there is a 2 ball limit for on course practice and we appeal to our members out playing or living on our boundary to report any suspicious activity to the proshop, office or bar so staff may deal with the issue. This type of practice damages the course and is extremely frustrating for our members and green staff. COURSE IMPROVEMENTS . Mark Twain is oft quoted "Continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection". It has been the policy of the club for some years to continuously improve our golf course. Over the last 20 years there have been huge changes - the irrigation system was possibly the biggest. Over time that system has been improved with extensions on the 18th, 5th and 17th and this year on the 12th (and soon to be followed by the 4th.) The 12th has been re-profiled and additional mounding added to the 18th. The plan is to continue with mounding at the back of the 6th and then the next project is the exciting short game area to help us hone our games. We are almost half way to our target with $7000 already pledged from generous members. It has been extremely gratifying to see the progress of our club over the last few years. Many clubs, especially those in regional areas, have experienced falling membership and reduced patronage - our experience has been the opposite with rising membership and increased activity both on the course and especially in the club house. This improvement has been the result of the plan to make our club a club that people want to be part of. We're continually improving and as has been said before we're not just a golf course with a clubhouse but a true club, a great club , a friendly club with an excellent golf course. Thank you all. |
