Loan Repaid We were pleased to receive Deputy Mayor Ian Scandrett at the club this month. The occasion was the final payment to settle the loan funds that the council made available to us 5 years ago. With the repayment of the loan the club is now substantially debt free. Of course the Board always has to "keep its eye on the ball" to ensure that our club, or at least the business of the club, is operating in a financially sustainable manner. The walking benefits of playing an 18-hole round at least once a week has been investigated by the Sport Industry Research Centre (SIRC) at Sheffield Hallam University, which finds huge health benefits. Commissioned by England Golf and the Professional Golfers’ Association, the research reveals that golfers are 14 per cent more likely to report general good health than non-participants. The social benefits of the game has also been linked to dementia prevention and the same study finds an identical percentage of risk reduction with coronary heart disease – 30 – can be applied to the reduction in risk of developing dementia". for the full story please click here ![]() This month we had a display at the Visitors Centre to promote our club. The display comprised photos of the course and clubhouse, golfing equipment and pamphlets and the Club brochure for visitors to take. ![]() From July 1st 2016 compulsory training for directors of registered clubs was introduced as a requirement in NSW. Most of our directors have undertaken one of the modules with half of the directors completing the required 2. A couple of us have completed an additional module. As our club does not have gaming revenue, only 2 directors are required to be trained. The training is worthwhile, in that it acquaints directors with their legal responsibilities, knowledge of the legislation and also helpful financial information. ![]() At our club we are happy that Bowral Bridge Club Inc calls our club house home for their twice weekly gatherings - Monday afternoons and Thursday mornings.
