New members joining since the last blog:- Jacob Buisman, Issac Walz, Ian Currie, Max Curry, Oscar Curry. These new members bring our total membership to 577. Trivia has always been popular as evidenced by the 'sell out' crowds we get and also the requests we have about 'when is the next trivia night'. Geoff Hammond - our trivia host of long standing, has done a great job over many years assisted by his excellent team. Two dates announced so far are 26th May and the 15th September. We are trying to organise 1 per quarter and are thinking that a trivia lunch would be well accepted. Year end accounts are being finalised, Each year, in line with regulatory requirements, the club has the financial accounts audited. This audit also extends to the processes that the Board and Management of the club has adopted. The purpose of the audit is to ensure that the accounts as presented, present a true and fair view of the club's operations. The final report is incorporated in the Annual Report published each year. This annual report will be sent to members prior to the AGM scheduled for Friday April 28th this year. Last year we changed auditors - following members' approval - to registered auditors Hassos and Associates. This month's board meeting was on Tuesday Feb 7th. Each month the Board receives reports from the Captain, Treasurer, Secretary/Manager and the Women Golfers committee. Correspondence received is tabled and new membership applications considered and voted on. As well as this the management committee minutes are circulated to the directors for information and comment. Appointment of new Directors. With the passing of director Keith Markwell and the resignation of Dennis Cooper last year (Dennis retired from the Board late last year for personal reasons but continues to assist the board), the board decided to appoint two members. Helen Chadwick and Dick Hiser. Both Helen and Dick will bring skills and experience to the board to aid it in carrying out its role. Helen served on the Women's Committee and also as an elected councillor on Wingecarribee Shire Council. Dick has had a career in the Australian Air Force and then Qantas. The board has the authority under the Corporations Act of 2001 to fill casual vacancies if they choose to as they occur. This type of director appointment is for the remainder of the Board's term. The updated organisation chart for the Board and Staff follows:-. Governance Policy for the Board. The Board has adopted a governance policy that is intended to clarify the underlying principles of governance for the club. Board members are bound by the policy. Much of the policy is already covered in legislation and regulations. The policy can be seen by clicking here What is 'Governance' -to quote the 'Australian Institute of Company Directors' "Corporate governance is a broad-ranging term which, amongst other things, encompasses the rules, relationships, policies, systems and processes whereby authority within organisations is exercised and maintained". ' OR ""Good governance is about the processes for making and implementing decisions. It’s not about making ‘correct’ decisions, but about the best possible process for making those decisions." that quote is from the website http://www.goodgovernance.org.au/ | The Australia Day events at the club were well supported with a field of 53 for golf and 80 for a sausage sizzle provided by the club (free for members) and abley BBQ'd by directors Linden Toll and Warren Ryan. AWARDS and TROPHIES Starting this year the Board has approved an alternative way of presenting prizes and trophies. A successful proposal was put by the Captain that starting this year trophies and awards of non-championship medley and men's events be awarded on the day. From next year championship event trophies such as Club Champion, Mixed Foursome Champions etc will have their trophies awarded at the anniversary dinner - a combined dinner that replaces the previously separate dinners hosted by the Captain and President. Complimentary entry to the dinner for the winners and partners will be included as part of the prize. It's been obvious that members enjoy coming to the club and sharing with friends a simple BBQ. There is an attraction as well, no doubt in not having to think up what to cook when someone else is doing it. The plan is to have a number of BBQs - complimentary for members (that means free) through the year. The next two are on Friday 10th March around 5:30 pm- and Easter Monday the 17th April around 1pm. There will be golf events both days with the BBQ following, cooked by the directors. Some Clubhouse Repairs. Like the course the club's building requires continual maintenance. An application to expend just over $10,000 was approved by the board to carry out repairs and maintenance to the clubhouse building. Members may have noticed that some of the building woodwork was damaged or rotting and required replacement or repairs. Among other things Interior doors need rehanging, a door needs replacing, guttering replaced etc etc. The financial surplus that the activities at the club generate is partly for funding these necessary repairs. |
